PM Modi pays tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on birth anniversary; Cong leaders hail his ‘efforts to unite country’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on the occasion of his birth anniversary on October 31, which is observed as National Unity Day, at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat.
President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and a host of dignitaries also offered floral tributes to Vallabhbhai Patel on the occasion. At a special function held at capital’s Patel Chowk, the President, Dhankhar and others paid their tributes at the statue of India’s first home minister.
Addressing a gathering at the event in Gujarat, the PM said, “The people coming to Ekta Nagar not only get to see this grand statue but also get a glimpse of Sardar Saheb’s life, sacrifice and his contribution in building one India. The story of the construction of this statue itself reflects the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat‘ (one India, great India).”

In a post on X, Modi wrote earlier, “On the Jayanti of Sardar Patel, we remember his indomitable spirit, visionary statesmanship and the extraordinary dedication with which he shaped the destiny of our nation. His commitment to national integration continues to guide us. We are forever indebted to his service.”
Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah said unity and prosperity of India was the sole aim of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s life. “Sardar Saheb’s dedicated life to the nation and nation-building work as the country’s first Home Minister will always inspire us. Tributes to Iron Man Sardar Patel on his birth anniversary and best wishes to all the countrymen on Rashtriya Ekta Divas,” he wrote on ‘X’ in Hindi.

Those who attended the event on Tuesday included Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena and Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi among others.
The Congress party, too, paid tributes to India’s first home minister, with party chief Mallikarjun Kharge hailing his contribution in uniting the country.
In a post on X, Kharge said, “Tributes to the man who united the entire country, the iron man of India, the country’s first deputy prime minister, former Congress president and our source of inspiration, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel ji, on his birth anniversary.”
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, in a post on X, said a grateful nation celebrates the 148th birth anniversary of the one and only Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
“हमारा कर्त्तव्य ये है कि हमें निश्चय कर लेना चाहिए कि हमें हिंदुस्तान में भाई-भाई की तरह रहना है…कोई भी कौम हो …हिन्दू हो, मुसलमान हो, सिख हो,पारसी हो, ईसाई हो, सबको यही समझना चाहिए कि ये हमारा मुल्क़ है।”

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi wrote: “The inspiration to unite India and unite the entire country comes from Sardar Patel only.”
