MP Cong working committee dissolved: Focus on grassroot workers, ‘spirit of we’

In the aftermath of the drubbing in the hands of the BJP, the Congress has begun restructuring its Madhya Pradesh unit as the AICC decided to dissolve the MP Congress working committee Tuesday.

During a meeting, chaired by MP Congress Committee president Jitu Patwari, party general secretary in-charge of the state, Jitendra Singh announced the decision of the AICC and said, “The district in-charges and joint in-charges will continue to work till the next directive.”

Senior leaders including former CM Digvijaya Singh, Leader of the Opposition Umang Singhar, former Union Ministers Suresh Pachauri, Arun Yadav, Kantilal Bhuria, former Leader of Opposition Dr Govind Singh, and former Minister Kamaleshwar Patel were present at the meeting, where the party’s Lok Sabha elections strategy and ways to strengthen the party organisation were also discussed.

“Though the Assembly election results were not as per our expectations, the people of the state have given us a strong base. With this confidence, we will work with enthusiasm. I will try to give a new edge to the party at the organisational level, and we will all work together according to the sentiments of the people of the state,” Singh said.

The dissolution of the working committee “signals a clear intent to restructure the party and address the challenges it faces”, party leaders said as they acknowledged the need to restructure the party from the grassroot level, considering BJP’s formidable organisation right down to the booth-level workers.

The party under its new leadership is now focussing “on collective leadership and empowering grassroots workers signifies a shift towards a more inclusive and participatory approach”.

The party workers believe that “this internal revamp, coupled with the support of senior leaders, demonstrates the party’s determination to bounce back from its recent setback and mount a strong challenge in the Lok Sabha elections”.

Patwari is trying to steer the party towards collective leadership as he said, “Let us all work with the spirit of ‘we’ instead of ‘I’”. This is a deviation from the strategy under Kamal Nath where the regional leaders had taken a backseat, which, party insiders believe, gave the BJP an advantage, as Union Ministers and Lok Sabha MPs managed to hold out on their own in the state’s important regions.

“When we have faith in collective leadership, our strength increases manifold. The strength of any organisation lies in the power of its workers standing in the last line. As the president, I dedicate all my strength to the last unit of my organisation from today and assure you that the booth, block, mandal, and sector workers will be empowered,” Patwari said.

Patwari has been stressing on grassroots organisations, including the Seva Dal, a grassroots organisation of the party, stating it was the “responsibility of every soldier of Seva Dal to go door-to-door and spread the principles and thoughts of the Congress.”
