FIR to be lodged against MLA for inciting violence: Manipur CM Biren Singh

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh Saturday said the police will book a Churachandpur MLA on charges of inciting the February 15 violence in the district that left two dead and scores of others injured. The chief minister made the announcement while speaking to media persons at his official bungalow in the state capital.

The MLA, whose identity has not been disclosed yet, posted a controversial statement on X (formerly Twitter) barely an hour before the latest violence broke out in Churachandpur.

Biren Singh further said that punitive action would be taken against individuals and organisations including the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) for ‘conspiring’ against district officials in Churachandpur.

The CM claimed that para-military forces have been pressed into action to curb the ongoing violence in Sugnu, and if they failed to bring the situation under control then special commandos of the Manipur Police would be deployed. He also informed that a magisterial-level inquiry has been ordered to probe the recent incidents of looting at different armouries.
